Sunday Soma Brief #7: Soma Sunday Brief: Don’t Get Asteroid-ed, lol 🤓.

The Confession: If I seem a little extra lately, it’s because I’ve spent the last 48 hours in a dark room rewatching "The Dinosaurs" on Netflix. I am now 100% convinced that every marketing strategy is either a scrappy survivor or an oblivious Brachiosaurus waiting for the sky to fall.

The "Clade" Rabbit Hole: Between the man of the hour, Morgan Freeman’s bassy growl and the hyper-realistic

CGI, I started obsessing over clades. In biology, a clade is a group that shares a common ancestor and every single one of its descendants. You’re in, or you’re extinct. No in-between.

It hit me: Digital marketing is just one big evolutionary tree.

The Elder Millennial Clade (The Foundation)

We are the survivors of the Triassic period of the internet. We remember dial-up. We evolved the first major digital trait: Search Engine Literacy. We mastered the "Map Pack" and keywords. We built the foundation that every Naperville business stands on today. We aren't the fossils—we’re the ones who wrote the rules of the game.

The Gen Z Evolution (GEO)

Then came the Cretaceous period (otherwise known as 2026). A new branch snapped off the tree. This "clade" evolved Conversational Intuition. They don't look for links; they ask their AI for the answer. This is GEO (Generative Engine Optimization).

The Soma Take: You can’t have the Gen Z evolution without the Millennial foundation. If you’re a Naperville founder, you probably feel like the "SEO Parent" just trying to keep the lights on while the "GEO Sibling" is out here having main character energy in an AI Overview.

The reality? You need both. SEO keeps the foundation solid. GEO makes sure that when the AI starts talking, it’s citing your brand as the local authority.

Don't let your marketing become a fossil. The asteroid is already here—it’s just made of LLMs and AI search summaries.

Drop a comment: Are you an Elder Millennial still trying to survive the asteroid, or have you evolved into the GEO 'main character' yet? (Also, someone please tell me I’m not the only one who cried during the docuseries).
