Welcome to a new Sunday Soma stream of consciousness brief 😅. Today, I'm thinking about the fact that people always ask for a "guaranteed" formula for success. They want digital marketing to be black and white. But the truth is it's almost entirely gray. It’s a mix of data, timing, and the messy psychology of how humans actually make decisions.
The 5 W’s of Marketing Ambiguity:
Who: Business owners frustrated that "the rules" seem to change every week.
What: The Psychology of Search.
Where: In the mind of your customer before they even click.
When: Every time a user hesitates before hitting "Contact Us."
Why: Because you aren't marketing to algorithms; you're marketing to people.
Why this matters to me: I’m obsessed with the "why" behind everything, but in this case, the click. I care about this topic because once you accept that there is no perfect formula, you stop chasing hacks and start building actual trust. Digital marketing is an experiment, and the ambiguity is where the best ideas are born.
The Lesson: Stop looking for a black-and-white answer in a world of human color. The data tells you what happened, but psychology tells you why.
Let’s Talk: What’s a marketing "rule" you followed that completely failed? I’m convinced the failures tell us more about our customers than the wins do. Tell me yours below.
