If you’ve ever worked with me, you know I’m a "stream of consciousness" person. I like to get the ideas out fast before they evaporate. Consider this series my weekly 3-minute rant, filtered down so you don’t have to deal with the messy drafts. I’m doing this because I’m tired of seeing small businesses get left behind just because they can’t keep up with the technical noise.
Tonight’s rant: Generative Engine Optimization (GEO).
The 5 W’s:
Who: You (the one trying to be found) and the AI bots (the ones doing the finding).
What: Optimizing your site so ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity actually cite you as an authority.
Where: Across your site, your Google Business Profile, and every digital footprint you leave.
When: Right now. The shift from "searching" to "answering" is already here.
Why: Because if an AI assistant doesn't mention your name when a customer asks for a recommendation, you're invisible.
Why this matters to me: I hate seeing great businesses lose to mediocre ones just because the mediocre one knew how to "talk to the robot" better. I’m obsessed with GEO because it levels the playing field for the experts who actually know their stuff.
5 Tips to use tonight:
Answer Directly: Re-write headers as questions and answer them in the first sentence.
Fact Density: Use real numbers. "We helped 50 people" > "We helped a lot of people."
H2/H3 Headers: Use them. Bots love structure.
Cite Your Sources: Link to industry data. It proves you aren't just making things up.
Clean Your Profile: Keep your GBP updated. If your hours are wrong, oh lawd, the AI won't trust you.
Let’s Talk: AI search is the new Google Search... Have you asked an AI tool about your business yet? Drop a comment—I’m hanging out tonight to chat!
